Other Hereditary Cancer Syndromes
Most forms of cancer are sporadic, meaning that there is no inherited cause of the cancer. There are, however, a number of recognized syndromes where there is an inherited predisposition to cancer, often due to a defect in a gene that protects against tumor formation.
While this website primarlily focuses on providing information and support for one of the more common of these disorders, Lynch syndrome, other hereditary cancer syndromes have been identified, each with unique and beneficial approaches to helping reduce the associated risk of cancer. Some of these include:
- Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC)
- Hereditary Melanoma and Pancreatic Cancer
- The Polyposis Syndromes (including FAP, AFAP, and MAP)
