Lynch Syndrome Increases Cancer Risk
LYNCH SYNDROME INCREASES CANCER RISK
- A more than 90% risk of developing one or more types of cancer6
- An increased risk of colorectal cancer - at least 25% by age 50, and up to 82% by age 706,7
- An increased risk of uterine (endometrial) cancer in women-up to 71% by age 708
- A 50% risk for a second cancer within 15 years of the first diagnosis9
- A 50% risk of passing Lynch syndrome on to their children
Lynch syndrome not only increases the risk for colorectal and uterine cancer, but puts patients at higher risk for other cancers as well, including stomach, ovarian, small intestine, urinary tract, brain, and biliary tract. While these cancers are rare, even in Lynch syndrome, their presence should be considered when evaluating a patient's family history.
